What is Lead?
Lead-based paint is paint that contains lead compounds as a key ingredient, used to enhance color, durability, and drying time. It was commonly used in homes and buildings built before 1978, when it was banned in the U.S. for residential use due to health risks. As the paint deteriorates or is disturbed, it can release toxic lead dust or chips, posing serious health hazards—especially to children.
