What is Mold?

Mold is a type of fungus that grows in damp, warm, and humid environments. It spreads by releasing microscopic spores into the air, which can settle and grow on surfaces like walls, ceilings, carpets, and wood. While some mold is harmless, certain types can cause structural damage and pose health risks, particularly to those with allergies, asthma, or weakened immune systems.

Health Effects
  • Allergic reactions: Sneezing, runny nose, red eyes, and skin rashes

  • Asthma attacks: Mold can trigger or worsen symptoms in people with asthma

  • Respiratory issues: Coughing, wheezing, and difficulty breathing

  • Sinus congestion and headaches

  • Fatigue and irritation: Mold exposure can cause throat, eye, and skin irritation

Testing for mold is important—especially if you notice musty odors, visible growth, water damage, or if people in the space are experiencing unexplained health symptoms like allergies or respiratory issues. Mold can grow hidden behind walls, under flooring, or in HVAC systems.
